Living While Dying: A Story of Bad Decision Making

sword - Living While Dying: A Story of Bad Decision Making

Living While Dying: A Story of Bad Decision Making: There is a person who has consistently made bad life-choices. He made poor financial decisions because he believed he did not have long to live.

He does not remember when. At some point, he got the idea that he was not going to live long. Yet, even with this idea in mind he kept striving to better his life. Attending college and obtaining a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Information Systems and a Diploma in Computer Science.

Even so, the idea of his impending death was always a lingering thought. He didn’t live in fear of his impending death. Nevertheless, he was caught up in two divergent worlds: the world of continued life and the world of presently dying.

He did not try to rationalize the two divergent thoughts that controlled his life. He lived with them. Having only one experience, that of living, he had no reference point to measure the two. No way of knowing which one is better.

Having two contradictory beliefs at the same time is often called Cognitive dissonance. This can lead to unpleasant emotional results. It can also cause behavioral problems, assuming that there is a difference between emotions and behavior.

Striving for your betterment while feeling that your efforts are wasted is challenging. He felt this way because he believed he did not have much longer to live. It is a push and stop mental gymnastics. This is a form of mental-agility allowing you to move between different ideas without much anxiety.

But the cost is often bad life-choices and financial decisions making. At least, that is what this person can say about himself.

No estimations. No moment’s notice. Only the anticipation that the end of life is near. One foot on the acceleration. One foot on the break. Both pressing down hard. A life ruled by a persistent idea. A manner of living that brings no contentment.

And the cost. Mistakes that can’t be erased. Achievements that somewhat balances the scale. A life lived without feeling real joy. A testimony that is not worth being written. A strength that overpowered a persistent belief.

And so, it is. And it will. And all in between.

the kiss

The Kiss

the kiss

The Kiss. In the past, I did not have a problem with it. Now, I cringe when I see a kissing movie scene. This reaction is due to personal experience. It caused an eye condition that I have to contend with daily.

A milky substance blurs my vision and is most irritating because I have to wipe my eyes constantly. This eye condition is all my fault. I kissed someone whom I knew was ill in some way. Still, I did not know from what.

I use an excuse. As we were walking out the door, she suddenly turned. She gave me a firm kiss on the mouth. I was caught off guard, nevertheless I was extremely acquiescent to her burst of affection, or whatever it was. So much so that we relinquished and reestablished the kiss two or three times.

Within an hour my eyes felt irritated and were watery. Within three hours I was a walk-in at a local hospital. But, I discharged myself from having a full evaluation. I had dropped her off at a class she was taking and needed to rush to go pick her up.

danger

Unwisely, I did not follow up my hospital visit, hoping that whatever I was suffering from would go away. Which it has not.

Some time later I when to an eye clinic and was told that my eyes were not producing enough tears. I was prescribed tear droplets to fix the problem. I hoped that this would arrest my eye condition, which it has not.

I was ashamed to tell the doctor when and how my eye condition started. This has been another unwise move on my part. I have learned that many doctors do not take the patients’ self-diagnosis seriously.

I have tried other eye care products along with the tear therapy solutions, but they were to no avail. I have given up on eye clinics because all I get from them is a repeat performance and no cure.

I don’t know if she deliberately placed the ill kiss on me. I am unsure why she suddenly turned as she did to kiss me. But I am not angry with her, I am too busy wiping my eyes for that. I am angry with myself. I knew better than to kiss her without knowing what she was suffering from. Yet, I kissed her anyway.

toxic

I am the recipient of a quick series of kisses. They have lasted a long time. There seems to be no end of those kisses in sight. This is why I cringe when I see kissing movie scenes. The romantic aspect of such scenes is done and gone.

Lips beware. Tongue confine yourself to tasting. Be careful because the mouth that breathes can produce the eyes that leak.
